November First Friday: Raiz y Rama

  • Confluence Center 119 West Main Street Missoula, MT, 59802 United States (map)

The Confluence Center (Western Montana's Home for Nonprofit Events) art program Torrents is thrilled to present a magical evening of art and community! This month we proudly present the special group exhibition Raiz y Rama, guest curated by local Latine artist Krissy Ramirez, and meant to coincide with Día de los Muertos .

Raiz y Rama (translating to Root and Branch) explores the universal themes of life and death, and how the traditions of Día de los Muertos have transcended geographical boundaries. As our community continues to evolve — or branch out — through the blending of diverse cultures, planting seeds and roots in new places, this exhibition celebrates the ways in which artists from various mixed-media backgrounds express their creativity while honoring their own profound meaning of Día de los Muertos.

The exhibit will feature seventeen local and national Latine artists in a variety of media. We’re proud to feature select works by:Rachel Calderón-Navarro, Patricia Countryman,  April Dearduff,  Andrea Garcia, Monica Gilles-BringsYellow, Nicole Hamm, Hannah Kautto, Diana Ingalls Leyba, José Galván Martinez, Marissa Nestor, Vesna Vera O’Connor, Lauren Orozco, Ismara Partidas, Dina Perlasca, Krissy Ramirez, Fiorella Michelis-Rosas, and Fernando Serrano.

Get a sneak peak at the exhibit during our 3rd Annual Día de los Muertos Celebration on November 2nd, 3-10pm. Then, join us for the exhibit opening on First Friday, November 7th, 5-8pm, which will include Live music by CantaBrasil, plus free traditional Latine snacks and drinks. The exhibit will remain on display through November 28th, and can be seen by appointment through the Center: 406-926-6526.
